Frequently Asked Questions & Answers

Have any specific questions about any of the programs or booking? Check out our regularly updated FAQs, you probably would find the answers there already.

  • Can I speak to a GP online in Australia after hours?
Yes! Our after-hours telehealth service connects you with experienced Australian-registered Doctors—even on evenings, weekends, and public holidays. No matter where you are in Australia, you can book a convenient online GP consultation in minutes.
  • How do online telehealth GP consultations work?
Simply book online, choose your time, and connect with a GP via secure video or phone call. Our doctors can assess your symptoms, provide prescriptions, issue referrals, or offer medical advice—all without visiting a clinic.
  • What types of conditions can a telehealth GP treat?
Telehealth GPs can help with a wide range of non-emergency issues including preventive health checks, chronic disease management, mental health support, skin conditions, repeat prescriptions, and more.
  • Can I get a medical certificate through a telehealth consultation?
Yes, if clinically appropriate, our doctors can issue medical certificates for work, school, or carer responsibilities during your telehealth appointment.
  • I am not located in any major city in Australia, can I still book an appointment?
Yes definitely! Health Horizon prouds itself by servicing each and every community in Australia using its telehealth consultation method. Our doctors are specifically trained to utilise telemedicine to get the most of the sessions with you. As long as you have a stable internet connection, or even just mobile network, and a suitable mobile device, our doctors will be able to reach you. If the area you live in only has landline connections, our doctors will call you on your landline, however bear in mind that to get the best out of our booking and follow up platform, a mobile number and/or an active email address is recommended. To prevent any delays to your care, we recommend any prescription, follow up letters, investigations requests, and relevant documents to be sent to you via your registered mobile number and/or email address. If needed, we can post them out to you via Australia Post, but we do not have any control over how long it would take for them to arrive.
  • Is your telehealth clinic available nationwide or just in a local area?
We provide online GP services Australia-wide—whether you’re in Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Adelaide, Perth, or any regional town. No limit to a physical location.
  • How quickly can I speak with a doctor online?
We offer same-day appointments and short wait times—especially during after-hours. Many patients can speak to a GP within an hour of booking. Bear in mind that given the nature of healthcare and medical emergencies can happen anytime, we cannot guarantee no delays to your appointment even when the likelyhood is slim.
  • I am from Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander background, am I eligible for the service?
Absolutely! Our doctors have come from and practice from various cultural backgrounds, and have had experiences of healthcare within the rural region of Australia amongst the Aboriginal community. Provision of medical services for the Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander patients requires special care and the usual evidence-based practice might not capture the delicacy of looking after someone from diverse backgrounds, hence why the personalised approach within Health Horizon would be the most suitable for you.
  • What if I cannot attend the appointment?
If you cannot attend your pre-scheduled appointment, please login to cancel or reschedule your appointment via the system/link that was sent to you during your booking. If you cannot cancel the appointment 1hr before your appointment booking time, the full fee will be charged. If there is an unforseen extenuating circumstances/medical emergency that prohibits you from attending the appointment, please shoot us a text or email (contact details at the bottom of the page, or use the Contact Us page) - we will aim to resolve this case-by-case to get an optimal outcome for everyone.
  • What is a preventive health check and why is it important?
Preventive health checks help identify potential health risks before symptoms appear. Early detection of conditions like diabetes, heart disease, or cancer can lead to better outcomes and longer, healthier lives.
  • I would like to know more about the consultation for Preventive Health, what does that entail?
Very glad you asked! The Preventative Health Consultation is a very detailed appointment to capture as much information about YOU as possible. It is not about you filling in the forms and waiting for AI to generate some numbers approximating your average performance. The program is designed with a personalised approach in mind, as we are hoping to capture YOUR very personal circumstances, and evaluate YOUR risks of developing certain diseases in the future (if you already got the disease, it's no longer a prevention method, right?). From there, the doctor can discuss with you in details about your plan for any further investigations (lab tests, imaging, etc.) and the strategies that you can utilise to maximise your health performance, prolong your disease-free lifespan and minimise the 'unwell' period in the future. Any further queries should be best to be addressed by the doctor during your consultation. If you would like to book now, please click the link on top of the page.
  • What are the main areas of Preventive Health that the appointment will cover?
There are many areas of your health that can have significant impact on your well-being now, and in the future. In general, the focus will be divided into these categories: Cardiovascular health Metabolic health Musculoskeletal health Cancer risks and terminal illness Mental health disorders Depending on your priority or risk profiles, you can discuss with our doctor and focus more into one or more than one key areas that would be signficant for YOU. This is YOUR appointment, and we would like you to make the most of this for YOURSELF. The doctor can guide you through the best evidence based practice, but you are the one that knows your body best.
  • Can I get a chronic disease risk assessment online?
Absolutely. Our Doctors can assess your risk factors for chronic diseases such as high blood pressure, heart disease, and type 2 diabetes via telehealth, and offer screening or lifestyle advices.
  • How do I book a preventive screening for heart or diabetes online?
ust book a telehealth appointment and speak with a GP. We’ll review your risk factors and arrange any necessary blood tests or follow-ups.
  • Can you help with early detection of health problems without symptoms?
Yes—our doctors specialise in early detection through risk-based screening, lifestyle assessments, and evidence-based preventive care plans.
  • What preventive services are available for men and women?
We offer tailored preventive health consults for both men and women, including heart health, reproductive health, mental wellbeing, and lifestyle risk reduction.
  • What should I prepare for the appointment with the Preventive Health Specialist?
The more previous history and records that you can bring to the appointment, the easier it is for the doctor to collect them, and the more accurate those information would be too. This can include (but not limitted to) any: Previous letters from GP/Specialist doctors Discharge summaries from any previous hospital admissions Medication(s) that you are currently on, or have been in the past Pathology test results Imaging results and reports Any other relevant information about yourself or your family Taking the time preparing for your appointment would enable you to get the most out of your consultation time with the doctor.
  • If the doctor recommends further testing (blood tests, scans/imaging, etc.) do I have to pay for them separately?
The short answer is, it depends. The fee that you have paid, is for the consultation and for the detailed report that will be generated for you by the end of the appointment including extra plans that will need to be executed or follow up in the future. If you have Medicare, there are routine investigations that would not cost you extra, as part of the Medicare eligibility criteria. If there are further pathology/scans/imaging that have been recommended and might cost extra, the doctor will discuss the costs with you, as you might need to factor this in - the costs are incured by the pathology and imaging services and is not associated with Zelica Health in any way. If you are recommended to see a different Specialist for further professional opinion, there would be further costs associated with the Specialist appointment as they operate separately from Zelica Health.
  • I would like to get a formal diagnosis for my acute/chronic problem, can the doctor do that?
The Preventive Health Program focuses on preventing any further medical conditions, or complications of existing medical issues, and is not designed to form diagnosis for any particular problems. The doctors at Zelica Health would be very happy to work in conjunction with your GP/Specialists to assist and guide you through your healthcare journey, however it is unlikely that a telemedicine consultation would be able to fully replace your face-to-face appointment with your GP/Specialists. If you need the investigation results and any summary of the discussions with the doctor at Zelica Health, please text/email us via the contact details at the bottom of the page or the Contact Us section, we would be very happy to send them to you.
  • I am about to be admitted to hospital, can I obtain my records at Zelica Health for the doctors in hospital to review?
Of course! Please contact us via the mobile number (text message preferred) if this is urgent, and we will aim to get this back to you before your admission. If your admission is still a while away, you can request the Correspondence via email or the Contact Us page. If this is an emergency and you require access after hours, please let your doctor(s) in the hospital know that your records should also be uploaded to MyHealthRecord - if you have opted to do so on your own MyHealthRecord platform.
  • Can I see an online doctor at night or on weekends?
Yes, we provide after-hours GP access every evening, weekend, and some public holidays. Perfect for those who need medical advice outside of normal clinic hours.
  • Is your clinic open on public holidays?
Given the telemedicine nature of the consultations, we’re available 363 days a year, including some public holidays and we are not restrained by the door closing time of a physical clinic site. You can access care when other clinics are closed.
  • What happens if I need a prescription or referral after hours?
No problem—our GPs can issue prescriptions, specialist referrals, or pathology requests even during after-hours appointments, and send them electronically. If it is a medical emergency, our doctors can provide a correspondence letter for you to visit the nearest Emergency Department.
  • Can you provide prescriptions and pathology requests through telehealth?
Yes, our telehealth doctors can prescribe medications, send eScripts to your pharmacy, and order pathology tests if needed after your consult. These can come as a text message or email, to your registered mobile number or email address, usually within seconds.
  • How do I get a referral to a specialist through your online GP?
During your consult, the GP can assess your condition and issue an electronic referral to a relevant specialist or allied health provider. The referrals will automatically to your specialist of choice, however you could also obtain a copy of the referral letter and contact them directly for booking.
  • Do you offer medical certificates for work or school absences?
Yes—if appropriate, we’ll issue you a same-day digital medical certificate sent straight to your email after your telehealth consult.
  • Can you issue mental health care plans via telehealth in Australia?
Yes, eligible patients can receive a GP Mental Health Care Plan through a video consult, giving access to Medicare-subsidised psychology sessions.
  • How much does an online doctor appointment cost?
Our onsult fees for your initial session at the clinic start from $79 for a 30-minute appointment. If you have been to our clinics before, the fees are much cheaper for $49 for a 15-minute consultation. If you only require a medical certificate for the day, our expedited appointment request would only be $19 for a 5-minute session - you can even request this via email or text, and our doctors will call you back to confirm and issue the medical certificate. All our prices are transparently listed when you book.
  • Do I need a Medicare card for an online doctor consult in Australia?
Currently our after-hour services are limited to private billing only, however our rates currently are mostly lower than mixed billing alternative options, so take the opportunity to book now and look after your health.
  • I am from overseas and/or I do not have Medicare, am I still eligible for the service?
Yes, definitely! The service at Health Horizon is private funding, so anyone is welcome to book and utilise the service. Our doctors come from various culture and backgrounds, and they would be the best people to understand the diversity of your nature.
  • Can I claim the telehealth consultation fee on private health insurance?
Yes—you will receive a generic receipt upon your card being charged for the appointment. We also issue itemised invoices for private health or tax purposes upon your request.
  • If the doctor recommends further testing (blood tests, scans/imaging, etc.) do I have to pay for them separately?
If you have a valid Medicare card, most of the investigations are already subsidised and covered by Medicare. If there is any investigations that would cost extra, your doctor would discuss this with you before hand. If you do not have Medicare, the pathology test and radiological investigation fees are determined by individual provider, you are welcome to compare different providers and find the best option for you. We partner with our providers for their professionalism, quality of tests, and ease of access for multiple locations all over the state and the country, however we do not earn any incentives from referring patients to their service, hence you are welcome to choose your preferred providers.
  • Is my online consultation with a GP confidential and secure?
Absolutely. We use encrypted telehealth platforms and follow Australian privacy laws to keep your health information safe. Bear in mind that the usual Public health safety measures are in place, and the usual notifiable disease protocols apply as per the Department of Health guidelines - we will endevour to inform you of any health risks prior to notifying the Department of Health.
  • Do you store my medical records securely?
Yes. All records are stored in secure, encrypted ZedMed systems in line with Australian clinical data protection regulations.
  • Is your clinic operated by qualified Australian-registered Doctors?
Yes—all consultations are performed by Australian-based and qualified AHPRA-registered Doctors with General Registration experienced in telehealth and preventive care.
  • What is the alternative medicine pathway?
This is the program designed to help patients who have had minimal success in treatment of chronic conditions under the Western medicine/public healthcare system, or they found the healthcare system was too difficult to navigate through. The doctor will discuss with you all possible alternative options for managing your condition, including but not limited to: natural remedies, Allied Health professionals, Psychologists, Chinese Medicine/accupuncture, Chiropractors, Massage therapists, and medicinal cannabis if appropriate.
  • I just need a prescription refilled, can the doctor just do that without a bunch of questions?
Unfortunately, Zelica Health is not designed for that purpose. The TGA has strict criteria about prescribing therapeutic goods, and Health Horizon would neither perform nor participate in any acts that could violate the TGA's policies. The doctors at Zelica Health are Authorised Prescribers who have had further training specifically in therapeutic application of medicinal cannabis, and all relevant TGA rules and regulations surrounding prescription of therapeutic goods, they can utilise medicinal cannabis as one of the many treatment options for patients' conditions, and they will make appropriate professional clinical judgement to deem if the patients would benefit from such prescription using the best available evidence in practice.
  • What medical conditions are eligible for alternative medicine pathways?
There are many medical conditions that would benefit from this pathway and the treatment strategies that can be offered. There is no one-size-fits-all approach at Health Horizon, and the doctors would do their best to find the most optimal treatment options personalised to you and your specific condition. If you have had many treatments in the past and have not had many success in controlling your condition, Zelica Health would definitely like to learn more about you and see how we can help!
  • I have chronic pain and would like a repeat prescription for my pain medications, would it be possible to do that?
Chronic pain is a complex condition, and we would aim to help you as much as possible. Health Horizon utilises the multidisciplinary approach to design your personalised treatment plan and we will guide you through every step of the way. Unfortunately we will not be able to simply get you a repeat prescription for chronic pain medication if you have not been involved in the program before. If you would like to discuss your pain management with our doctors, please feel free to book an appointment via the link on top of the page.
  • If the doctor prescribe a prescription for me, how can I retrieve that?
Zelica Health utlises the popular eScript system for all prescriptions. To prevent any delays to your care, we recommend registering your mobile number and/or an active email address during your booking, so the prescription(s) can be sent to you via your registered mobile number and/or email address. If needed, we can also post the prescription(s) out to you via Australia Post, however we do not have any control over how long it would take for them to arrive.
